PRESERVING SMILES
Preventing, discovering and resolving potential problems, before they evolve into complex conditions. It includes checkups, fluoride treatments, X-rays, sealants, and oral cancer screenings.
Dental Checkup
This consists of a review and update of your medical history, a thorough examination of your teeth, gums, mouth and neck, review of your oral hygiene habits, X-rays if needed, cleaning, fluoride treatment, sealant maintenance, and oral cancer screening.
Please allow a minimum of ninety minutes for your initial dental checkup. Subsequent checkups should be considerably shorter.
Flouride Treatment
Time and time again fluoride has proven to be one of the most effective tools in the prevention of tooth decay. During your child's dental checkup, the or she will receive a fluoride treatment to help ensure maximum protection against tooth decay.
X-Rays
X-rays are used to discover potential conditions that may have yet gone unnoticed and they help us gain a complete picture of any dental problems so that the correct treatment can be rendered safely.
Dental Sealants
Besides fluoride, protecting children's teeth with dental sealants have proven to be one of the most important tools in preventing tooth decay. However, the average sealant begins to deteriorate by the second year of placement. Because we place such a high premium on the value of sealants, all sealants placed at Piedmont Family Dentistry will be monitored, maintained, or replaced, at no extra charge, during the routine checkup visit.
Please allow a minimum of 45 minutes and two visits for first-time sealant placement.
Oral Cancer Screening
This is a standard of Dental Checkup visits. Most cuts and bumps in the mouth are harmless, however if during the Oral Cancer Screening, a suspicious bump or sore is discovered that cannot be confidently explained by simple in-office techniques, rest assured we will refer you to the appropriate specialist.
RESTORING SMILES
Services including bridges, dentures, extractions, deep cleanings, and implants. These services are meant to not only repair tooth damage, but prevent future problems.
Bridges
Bridges are used when a tooth is missing to fill in an empty space. The dentist uses teeth on either side of the space as supports for the bridge. Crowns are placed on these teeth and these crowns are connected with false teeth in the empty spaces. All the bridge is a single piece, and it is usually put in place with special dental "glues" that hold the bridge in place.
Please allow a minimum of two visits for a single crown: 90 minutes for the first visit, 45 minutes for the second. For multiple crowns, the visit may be longer.
Dentures
While Implants and Bridges are currently experiencing greater popularity due to their increased stability, ease of maintenance, and exceptional cosmetic results, Dentures provide a perfectly acceptable means of replacing missing teeth for budget-conscious patients.
Please allow a minimum of three visits for a denture: 45 minutes for each visit.
Extractions
Every now and again there comes a time that a tooth, either because of the severity of the damage or because of circumstance, must be extracted, or "pulled". At Piedmont Family Dentistry our goal is to make your extraction visit as comfortable as possible.
Please allow a minimum of 45 minutes for an extraction of a single tooth. Multiple or Surgical Extractions may take longer.
Deep Cleanings
Otherwise known as a Scaling and Root Planning, deep cleanings are just like a regular cleanings, only more thorough. While a "simple" cleaning such as what you would receive during a routine Dental Checkup is sufficient in most cases, sometimes it simply is not enough- particularly with patients who suffer from Gum Disease or Periodontitis.
Please allow a minimum of 45 minutes and up to four visits for Deep Cleaning Therapy.
Implants
Crowns and conventional bridges or dentures may not be your only options when replacing missing teeth. More and more, dental implants are fast becoming the standard for tooth replacement since they offer a smile that looks and feels very natural. Surgically placed below the gums over a series of appointments, implants fuse to the jawbone and serve as a base for individual replacement teeth, bridges or a denture. Implants offer stability because they fuse to your bone. Integration of the implants into your jaw also helps your replacement teeth feel more natural and some people also find the secure fit more comfortable than conventional substitutes.
ENHANCING SMILES
As modern dental materials and techniques have improved with respect to aesthetics, most dental procedures are now also cosmetic in nature. This refers to a range of services including teeth-whitening, composite fillings, porcelain veneers, and porcelain crowns, to name a few. Modern dental materials allow many options not only to brighten your smile, but also to change the shape and improve the position of your teeth.
Cosmetic Crowns & Bridges
Crowns restore tooth structure while simultaneously improving its appearance. Additionally, crowns can be used to attach a bridge, protect a weak tooth from breaking or restore one that's already broken. A crown is a good way to cover teeth that are discolored or badly shaped. It's also used to cover a dental implant.
Please allow a minimum of two visits for a single crown: 90 minutes for the first visit, 45 minutes for the second. For multiple crowns, the visit may be longer.
Cosmetic Fillings (Bonding)
Dentist have been using silver fillings for years. While there is nothing wrong with the silver filling material, many people today are opting to have cavities filled with tooth-colored material. It looks better and, with the improvements in the strength of the new materials, they work well in areas where there are lots of chewing and biting pressure. Also, if you are unhappy with the appearance of those old metal fillings, composite fillings may be just the thing to improve your appearance and smile.
Teeth Whitening
Nothing beats a bright, white smile. At Piedmont Family Dentistry we offer whitening treatments that will safely take take the years off. You can usually see results in as few as a couple days.
Please allow up to two 30 minute visits for tooth-whitening- one to fabricate the custom trays and one to deliver.
Veneers
Veneers are similar to crowns in that they can dramatically alter the shape and color of your teeth. They are thin, custom-made shells crafted of tooth-colored materials designed to cover the front side of teeth. Once bonded, they are very strong and can drastically make over your smile.
Please allow a minimum of two visits for veneers: 90 minutes for the first visit, 45 minutes for the second. Depending upon the number of veneers, the visit may be longer.
