Dentures
Dentures can help restore your ability to chew, speak, and smile when several or all teeth are missing.
At Piedmont Family Dentistry, we help patients understand their options for full dentures, partial dentures, and denture-related care. The right recommendation depends on your mouth, your remaining teeth, your bone support, and your long-term goals.
You may be here because...
-
You are missing several teeth
-
Chewing has become difficult
-
Your current denture feels loose or uncomfortable
-
A dentist recommended a full or partial denture
When Dentures May Be Recommended
Dentures may be recommended when missing teeth affect everyday function, comfort, or appearance.
A partial denture may be used when some healthy teeth remain. A full denture may be used when all teeth in an upper or lower arch are missing or need to be replaced.
Before recommending a denture, the dentist will examine your mouth, review your remaining teeth, and talk with you about what feels uncomfortable or difficult now.

What Dentures Can Help With
They may help with:
-
Chewing a wider range of foods
-
Supporting the lips and cheeks
-
Filling spaces left by missing teeth
-
Improving speech affected by tooth loss
-
Restoring a more complete smile
Every mouth is different, so the fit, feel, and adjustment period can vary from patient to patient.

Full and Partial Dentures
A full denture replaces all teeth in the upper or lower arch.
A partial denture replaces several missing teeth while working around the natural teeth that remain.
Some patients need a new denture. Others may need an adjustment, repair, reline, or replacement of an older denture. The dentist can help determine which option fits your situation.

Getting Used to Dentures
New dentures can take time to adjust to. Eating and speaking may feel different at first.
Some soreness or pressure spots can happen during the adjustment period. If something feels uncomfortable, the denture should be checked rather than ignored.

Dentures FAQs
Do I need a full denture or a partial denture?
That depends on how many teeth are missing and whether the remaining teeth are healthy enough to support a partial denture. We can explain which option fits your mouth.
Can an old denture be adjusted?
Sometimes. If a denture is loose, sore, cracked, or no longer fitting well, the dentist can examine it and explain whether an adjustment, reline, repair, or replacement may be appropriate.
How long does it take to get used to dentures?
Adjustment time varies. Speaking and eating may feel different at first, and follow-up adjustments may be needed as your mouth adapts.
Are dentures the only option for missing teeth?
Not always. Depending on your situation, other options may be discussed. We can help you compare what is appropriate for your mouth.
